Death Guard Marshal Durak Raskby ~HomeOfCadaver

"Durak Rask was a fanatical follower of his Primarch, and viewed Mortarion as a preternatural saviour from his early youth on the benighted world of Barbarus. Having first been accepted into training into the Death Guard Legion when he came of age, Rask's innate intelligence and fervour were marked from an early stage and he quickly proved to be a dour and driven warrior with an uncommon flair for siegecraft. Over his decades of service in the XIV Legion, Rask rose steadily through the ranks to become his Legion's Marshal of Ordnance, proving his mettle in many battles and campaigns, and earning a rare commendation from Mortarion himself after the Siege of Valstpol, a battle in which Rask himself lost his left eye and was left horrifically scarred. When Mortarion declared his allegiance for Horus at the start of the Horus Heresy, Rask was one of the first and loudest in his support, having already become a member of the Seven Pillared Warrior Lodge which had been founded within the Death Guard to corrupt them towards the service of Chaos from within. On Istvaan III Rask volunteered to lead the vanguard attack against his former Battle-Brothers, a treachery he would pay for with his life."

Taken from the Betrayal Book, this is the fluff of Death Guard Marshal Durak Rask, the siege master of the Legion and fanatical follower of Mortarion himself! I was really inspired from his description and I wanted to include him in my growing pre-heresy Death Guard army, but there wasn't any model available for him yet, so I decided to build one on my own! I based him on a Space Marine Veteran model and after a heavy conversion ([link]) I came up with this result!

Painted him to fit with the war torn look that I want to achieve with the whole of my force. Hope you like him! Comments and votes on CoolMiniOrNot ([link]) are always more than welcome!

True but then it does say in the daemon codex that daemons view daemon princes as inferior due to their mortal origins.

That is their opinion on a marine that has ascended to daemonhood so I guess this argument could go either way.

To be honest right now this is pure speculation anyway as this army won't be coming into being until I have seen the next eldar codex anyway! Although saying that, it could do me as a little side project if that codex is still a long way off.....

I think the best thing to do is to wait until the eldar get their new codex. They have always been my favourite army (hence when I had a clear out I sold my daemons and space wolves and kept the eldar) and I imagine if they keep releasing decent, balanced codexes like they have been recently (I think the dark angels and csm plus hopefully the daemons are considered balanced codexes with a good number of viable builds available) I can see myself putting a fair bit of cash into them to fill out the units I don't have (vypers, striking scorpions, wraithguard to name but three) and whatever new units they get (a decent flyer would be nice).

yea, expect a new flyer for sure! and most surely they will update the model range so waiting would be the best thing to do!

Yeah I won't be replacing any of the models I have though (too much expense to do that).

I hope to add some wraithguard if they ever come out in plastic and with some decent new rules. Same with units like swooping hawks and jetbikes if they get a box like the dark eldar reavers.

I actually had a different idea for a csm army as well. Instead of the death guard, how about an army using as many of the daemon possessed units as possible?

So chaos characters with daemon weapons/daemon princes, possessed, obliterators, mutilators (maybe, if I can convert some as the models suck), raptors, warp talons (definately as I love the minis for these), daemon engines and daemonically possessed vehicles. Oh and spawn of course!

Troops would have to be basic csm I guess but with added mutations (or maybe cult troops for extra added weirdness - maybe noise marines modelled like they are screaming or something).

I don't think it would be particularly competitive as some of the daemonic units like warp talons or possessed are considered as some of the worst units in the book but it would look good and be fun to play!
